Hope everyone had a nice holiday!

Hello Hawks fans!!! Hope everyone had a nice holiday. The Chicago Blackhawks are 2nd in their division, 7th in their conference but are tied with the Colorado Avalanche and San Jose Sharks with points but they have played one less game. They are 20-14-3 with 43 points. In the last 10 games they are 6-3-1. Overall their power play is 25% which is ranked 1st in the league which is great but their penalty kill is 78.3% which ranks 26th in the league which is pretty bad. In the last 6 games (12/13-12/26), the Hawks are 4-2 and are on a 4 game winning streak.

Who’s Not
Honestly, I really wouldn’t put anyone here. Everyone has been stepping it up. Jordan Hendry…..there is no love for you by Coach Q but I care though.

Report Card
Penalty Kill-allowed 4G in 12 times being short-handed gives you an overall percentage 67% ……Brutal…..but good thing is you guys haven’t been in the box too much.
Grade---C-

Power Play- gotten 6G in 19 times having a man or 2-man advantage. It gives you an overall percentage 32%.....OH YEAH!!!
Grade---A

Offense-4 or more goals have been scored in the past 6 games with only one game scoring 3 goals….pretty good!

Defense-About time you guys showed up for more than one game in a row….allowing 2 or less goals not including the first two games (12/13 and 12/15)
Grade-----B+

Goaltending-This has never been a problem. Nice to see Turco win a game with a great defense in front of him….took you guys long enough…..first time Turco has won since November 17th.

-Duncan Keith 2nd goal in 22 games vs. Kings
-Hawks were 6-3-1 without Hossa
-Jack Skille has 6 goals this season and 4 are against the Nashville Predators
-The last time a Hawks player to score on a penalty shot at home was in 87’ by Troy Murray in the old Chicago Stadium
-Patrick Sharp has 7 goals and 8 assists on the power play this season
-Hossa get 1st star of the game eventhough Turco or Sharp should have gotten it instead of him

Overall, the Hawks did pretty good besides the 1st two games vs the Avs. It's about time the defense showed up on a more consistent basis. See what happens…..you get on a winning streak….and then you can see that Turco is a good goalie. I would have given him the belt cause it’s much deserved. Hossa…yes you are the smoke monster….glad ur back. I will miss tomorrow’s game well techniquelly today….but I will be at Thursday's game vs. Sharks…..CAN’T WAIT…..Christmas gift from my bro. LUV IT!!! As always….GO HAWKS!!

Side note-Glad to hear that Jordin Tootoo has voluntarily entered in-patient care Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Program. Best of luck for you Tootoo!

Chicago Wolves practice

Yeah, yeah.....I know this isn't Hawks related but it's hockey.  Hockey is hockey.  I figure I'd share some things in regards to the Wolves practice that I attended yesterday since I'm going to the game tonight vs. Milwaukee Admirals.  This is the 1st one that I have attended this season.  I do not consider myself an hockey expert....i consider myself a fan....here's my observations.

The rink is an ice chest.  If you think Johnny's Ice House is cold......WOW....go to the Wolves practice and then tell me it's cold.  I can tolerate a lot of cold....but OMG....it's FREEZIN'.   I was fully prepare this time and was okay sitting at the rink.

Akim Aliu-cute gesture.  He ended up throwing a puck over the glass to a kid.  The kid didn't see him do it but I sure did.  He gestures me to tell him.  So I go to the kid...."Hey there's a puck!"  The kid went to get it and runs around the rink to the Wolves bench and gives it back.  I guess he didn't know he was suppose to keep it....oh well, one of these days he will.

Nigel Dawes...you have a nice shot and Paul Postma your pretty good at poke-checking.

Andrew Kozek was right in front of me doing a puck-handling drill.  He had two pucks probably about 2 feet apart.  He was doing a figure 8 around the pucks....while standing still.

A few of the guys were working on their one-timers after practice.

The guys did a conditioning drill.  They were in two lines both at both blue lines.  They would skate to the center line and stop and go back to the blue line doing it twice.  I couldn't watch it cause it was making me dizzy.

I really wish I had a video camera for this part.  The guys had a shootout contest.  This one goalie....not sure which one but he was SERIOUSLY HILARIOUS!!!  He denied one of his teammates a goal and did a happy dance!!!  Talk about a CARE-CA-TURE!!!!

One thing i do wish is that I knew more of the players.  Hopefully going to the game tonight I'll be able to familiarize myself with the players and they will be able to put a W on the board.  GO WOLVES!!!

Cooking With Tony Esposito

Tony Esposito was at Meijers in Rolling Meadows on Thurs Dec 16th.  He was paired up with professional chef, Maribel, and made Chicken Lasagna.  I actually did have a sample of it after it was cooked.  It was okay...i liked the chicken but the sauce, pasta, and vegetables......not so much.

Anyways, I did get a Blackhawks small towel.....a lil bit bigger than a washcloth.  They had freebies for people that would text in their fav Hawk player to the All-Star game.  So here are some pics from the event.

Here's the towel I got
Tony O lookin' at my lampshade

Another one added to my lampshade.
So as Im watching Tony O do his thing....there was a lil kid that started talking to me about Blackhawks.  He makes a comment that Tony O should be our goalie for a game cause our goaltenders are horrible.  I didn't want to be rude to the kid but I was thinking in my head.....goaltending is the least of our problems.  If you want to narrow it down to what the problem is.....i'd say defense....but i let the kid ramble on and on.

So, Im in the line waiting for Tony O to sign my lampshade...this lady that is behind me goes.....I remember that lampshade.....you were here last time.  I was like which one.....I go to all of these.  She goes to her son who was probably 6 or 7yrs old.....which player did we see last time.  He was like Denis Savard and Steve Konroyd.  She was like....my son he knows everything and everyone.....which she's probably right cause I pointed to different players and he knew everyone.  That's one thing I like about going to these Hawks things....you end up talking to some really cool fans.  Til next time.

Hawks are finally home!

After a long 6 game road trip, the Hawks are finally home for most of Dec.  As of 12/12/10, they were currently 2nd in the division, 4th in the conference, 16-12-3, and with 35 pts.  The past five games (11/30-12/11/10) they have been 3-1-1 with 7 out of 10 pts.    Even though the Hawks are ranked 24th in the league for their penalty kill, they have only allowed 3G out of 18 chances and the power play is still pretty good with 8G in 19 chances.  Here are the game recaps.

Hawks vs. Blues (
11/30/10)
Hawks win 7-5
The Hawks take a 5-1 lead halfway thru 2nd period.  Crombeen drops the gloves with Nick Boynton to change the momentum of the game for the Blues.  It works in their favor because Brewer scores with left in the 2nd to cut the Hawks lead to 3.  Pietrangelo scores a slap shot early in the third and Boyes scores on a bouncing puck three minutes later to make it 5-4.  Coach Q calls for a time out.  Kane and Toews both score their second goals of night in the 3rd to win the game.
--Kopecky was a +3 for the night with 1G, 3A
--Brouwer and Bickell with 5 hits each
--Bolland with 31 shifts (the most) for the game
--Toews and Dowell both 67% at the dot

Hawks vs. Canucks (12/3/10)
Canucks win 3-0
The Hawks dominated the 1st out shooting the Canucks 14-8.  Glass scored with 9 left in the 2nd on Canucks only second SOG for the period.  Ehrhoff scores on a power play in the 3rd from the right point and Henrik Sedin scores with three left in regulation to secure the win for the Canucks.  Roberto Luongo gets his second shutout of the season.
--Boynton with 6 hits for the game

Hawks vs. Flames (12/5/10)
Hawks win 4-2
Patrick Kane gets helped off the ice on his first shift of the night and does not return.  All the goals in this game were scored on the special teams.  It was a crazy 1st period with Bickell, Bolland (1st 5-on-3 advantage scored), and Toews for the Hawks.  Iginla and Babchuk scored for the Flames.  Bolland gets the empty netter and second of the night to seal the victory.
--Seabrook with 3 assists and 6 hits for the game
--Bolland with 4 blocked shots
--Sharp at 100% at the dot winning all 8

Hawks vs. Stars (12/8/10)
Hawks win 5-3
Adam Burish makes his debut since leaving the 2010 Stanley Cup Champions over the summer.  Andrew Raycroft starts in goal for the Stars.  Bickell, Toews, Morin, and Brouwer score to take a 4-1 lead for the Hawks.  Dallas rallied at the end of the 2nd with goals from Segal and Eriksson.  Coach Q calls for a time out.  Crawford was on fire for the 3rd and Sharp scored a PPG empty net.
--Bickell, Scott, and Brouwer 5 hits each for the game
--Toews 78% at the dot winning 14 out of 18 face-offs

Hawks vs. Sharks (12/11/10)
Sharks win in OT 2-1
Hendry scores the lone goal for the Hawks.  Clowe scores both the goals for the Sharks.  Crawford played amazing making 28 saves for the game.  Niemi wins the second game against his former team.
--Sharp and Toews both over 70% at the dot
--Hjalmarsson with 4 blocked shots
--Skille with 7 SOG

Report Card

Offense- B-
Defense- C
Goalie- A-
Overall B

Interesting notes
-Corey Crawford wins 7 games in a row to be the 1st rookie goalie to win that many consecutive games since Darren Pang in 1988
-Jeremy Morin gets called up from Rockford and scores his first point in the game (11/30/10) and gets in a fight with Porter
-Hawks win their first home game since the circus trip vs. Blues (11/30/10)
-Hawks outshoot the Canucks 32-18 but end up loosing the game
-Bolland scores his 1st goal in 17 games on 12/5/10 vs. Flames
-Jordan Hendry scores a goal since being out of the lineup for a month (12/11/10)
-Jake Dowell does a classy move and doesn’t punch Steve Ott when he was down on his knee during a scrap.  Ott tapped Dowell on the helmet after the fight.
-Scott gets his 1st point in 21 games

Overall
The Hawks did pretty well with 3-1-1.  Corey Crawford has been playing great.  He got 7 wins before loosing to the Sharks although he deserved that win too.  In these five games, I did notice that the Hawks would be taking a huge lead and let it all fall apart.  We need the full 60 minutes to be consistent.  Thank god you guys were able to rally back and win the games versus Blues/Stars.  We have certain players still out of the lineup.  Kane….you better come back when you’re healthy.  We saw what happen both times when you hurried on back and you weren’t the same.  I just hope you are more consistent with your game.  Hossa…well you’re just awesome so if you could come back….it would be much appreciated.  I must admit I do like the Killer B line (Brouwer, Bickell, and Bolland).  You guys have impressed me and mesh well together so keep up the great work!  For the rest of you guys……let’s GO HAWKS!!

Christmas around the world and Hockey Night in Chicago!

I must say I was kinda was surprised when I got a phone call that informed me that I won a contest to meet 4 Chicago Blackhawks players at the Museum of Science and Industry.  I always enter those contests but never win.....it must have been my lucky day!!  So I ended up taking my brother and we went downtown to the museum.  It was the first time i've ever been there....I have been wanting to go there for a LONG time.....just never got around to it!

Anyways, I come to find out that Viktor Stalberg, Jack Skille, Corey Crawford, and Jake Dowell were the guys that were there.  I didn't know who was going to be there til I got there.  I was like OMG, OMG, OMG, Ahhhhh, OMG, OMG, OMG, Ahhhh.  (I didn't say that out loud but sure was thinking it the whole time!)  The two most hottest guys on the team were there....you might ask who is that....Stalberg and Skille. Skille is one of my favorites on the team but if you know me you would know who my number one guy is.  He's a hottie too!!! :D

Anyways, im getting off the subject (and don't assume i don't know anything about hockey just cause i think certain guys are hott), so they provided us with drinks and appetizers which i thought was super cool.  We could just mingle and talk to the players.  I got pics with three of the four guys and got all their autos.  I had them sign a mini Chicago Blackhawks hockey stick.  I would like to give it to someone for Christmas....maybe to my niece.  I also had them sign my custom made air-spray shirt.  It is one of a kind shirt.  Im surprised no one so far has wanted to see the front.

Overall, it was a lot of fun.  I got to meet some really cool Hawks fans.  I want to thank the Chicago Blackhawks organization, Museum of Science and Industry, and the fellow Hawks players that came out that night.  It will be one night i won't forget.  Thank you!  Here are some pics of the event.

The next day....they had a Bud Light Hockey Night in Chicago with Jesse Rogers from ESPN 1000am and Tomas Kopecky.  They were live on the air from 6-7 at Binnys in Bolingbrook. I finally got my lampshade signed by Kopy....which im excited about.  Hopefully he will do another airing in the suburbs with another player.....cause then I will be there.  I did get to meet Jesse....super cool guy....didn't have to chit chat with me but did.  Here are some pics from that event!!

Here's Kopy signature

Not sure how to turn this image but Jesse signed this for me

There is Tomas Kopecky.

Just to let you guys know.....I will be at the Tony O Meijers cooking in Rolling Meadows on Dec 16th.  Hope to see you there!  GO HAWKS!

Side note: CSN will air two classic playoff games.  They will have all of my favorite players back in the day!!!

Annual circus road trip!

The Chicago Blackhawks have an annual circus road trip the last two weeks in November.  Overall they were 4-2. Out of the 12pts they could have gotten...they got 8 pts.   Corey Crawford won 3 out of the 4 road trip wins.  If my math is right, they were 2 for 22 on their power play and were ranked 8th in the league.  The penalty kill killed off 20 out of 27 chances allowing 7 goals which had them ranked 25th in the league.  Here are the game summaries.

Hawks vs. Oilers (
11/17/10)
Hawks win 5-0
Jonathan Toews gets a hat trick (3G).  Sharp and Bickell also tallied for the Hawks.  Turco earns his first shutout as a Hawks player.  Devan Dubnyk replaces Nikolai Khabibulin in goal for the Oilers the start of the third period.  Hawks outshot Oilers 47-18 for the game.

Hawks vs. Flames (
11/19/10)
Flames win 7-2
Jarome Iginla scores a hat trick (3G) for the Flames.  Hagman, Moss, Morrison, and Glencross also tally for the Flames.  Dowell drops the gloves with Giordano 5 minutes left in the 2nd to try to change the momentum of the game for the Hawks but all the bad penalties, turnovers, and quiet offense lead to the huge loss.

Hawks vs. Canucks (
11/20/10)
Hawks win 7-1
Pisani with two goals.  Kane, Toews, Brouwer, Seabrook, and Sharp have a goal each.  Corey Crawford gets the start in goal for the Hawks.  Roberto Luongo got pulled with 4 goals on 20 shots on goal.  Samuelsson ends Crawford's shutout with 6 1/2 minutes left in the game.

Hawks vs. Sharks (11/24/10)
Sharks win 5-2
Antti Niemi starts in goal for the Sharks against the Chicago Blackhawks since leading them to the Stanley Cup championship last season.  Dowell and Sharp tally for the Hawks in the loss. Patrick Marleau scored twice with the empty net to seal the victory.  Dany Heatley, Joe Pavelski and Jamal Mayers also scored for the Sharks.

Hawks vs. Ducks (
11/26/10)
Hawks win 4-1
The Hawks defense goes back to top 2 pairs Seabs-Keith and Jelly-Soupy....YEAH!  Keith scores a shortie, Sharp, Nicklas Hjalmarsson ended a 44-game goal drought, and Brouwer scores to have Hiller replaced 10 minutes left in the game.  Perry is the lone scorer for the Ducks.

Hawks vs. Kings (
11/27/10)
Hawks win 2-1
Sharp and Kane score the goals for the Hawks.  Kopitar scores for the Kings.  Crawford made 21 saves for the game.  John Scott and Kevin Westgarth dropped the gloves.  Scott won that one and had to be one of his best!!

-Kevin Westgarth....as Pat Foley would say, "You've been Thunderstruck!"
-Kings had only 3 shots on goal for the second period against the Hawks.

Overall, the Hawks did pretty good on this road trip.  Nice to see certain players start to show up for the game….still waiting for a handful more step it up and get their s%@# together.  Corey Crawford did pretty well…..so let the goalie controversy begin!!!  The defense and offense both have turned up a notch….nice to see an overall impressive 60 mins game except when they played the Flames.   Maybe this is what the Hawks needed to be on the road and concentrate about the game instead of trying to impress the home crowd.  Keep up the great work and don’t let it slip.  If you guys could keep this up…..there is no-one that can stop yall!!!  GO HAWKS!!!!!

Overall
The Hawks are loosing games that they shouldn't.  The core group of guys haven't shown up and the depth is not there yet.  Watching games now is kinda frustrating cause I know everyone thinks....well when's the other team going to score......or when they going to let in two goals in a matter of seconds.....why can't we score more?!  I think the Hawks need a lot of work.  The positives is that the power play is doing pretty good so far this season. Goaltending ain't to bad either.....although i know people that would disagree but they have stepped it up certain times and yes they do let in softies too!!!  Hopefully this circus road trip will turn the Hawks game around.  Maybe being away from the UC is a good thing...who knows.  All I want to see is some sort of improvement especially on the defense.  Get some grit.....get some jump.......get some drive....get some passion.  Do something!  You guys are better than this....i know you are!!  I won't give up on you guys even if everyone is saying ur not going to make the playoffs....you still have 62 games to go!!
Let's go Hawks!!!

How are the former Hawks players from the 2010 Stanley Cup team doing???

Since the Blackhawks are playing 4 former players from the 2010 Stanley Cup team on Sat (11/6/10) vs. Thrashers, my question is how are they doing on their new team.  My opinion is based upon stats so they may be playing great but may or may not producing on the score sheet.  I backtracked from the beginning of the season (09'-10') and used the same number of games that they have played this season.  We will start off with all the players on ATL.....Dustin Byfuglien, Ben Eager, Andrew Ladd, and Brent Sopel

The next four games (10/18-10/23)

The Chicago Blackhawks are 5-4-1.  They have 11 pts making them 5th in the Western Conference and 3rd in the division (Hawks and Wings are tied but Wings have played less game).  Here's the four game summaries:

Hawks vs. Blues (10/18/10)
Hawks win 3-2 (OT)
David Perron scored the Blue 2 goals.  Hawks were down 2-0 with 6:48 left into the game when Marian Hossa uses his magic and gets a power play goal.  2:31 later Hossa scores again using a beauty between the legs to tie the game.  Patrick Sharp scores the GWG in OT making it his 3rd consecutive GWG.

Hawks vs. Canucks (10/20/10)
Hawks win 2-1 (SO)
This was a hard fought game.  Viktor Stalberg scores for the Hawks in the 1st and Daniel Sedin scores in the 3rd to tie the game.  The game goes into a shoot out.  Toews, Sharp, and Kane all score eventhough 2 of them should have been stopped by Luongo but I'll take it!!  Daniel Sedin and Kesler score for Canucks while Mikael Samuelsson misses the net!

Hawks vs. Blues (10/22/10)
Blues win 4-2
David Perron scores another 2 goals this game....making it 4 goals this season for him all 4 vs. Turco.  Sharp (PPG) and Seabrook both score a goal each. It was 2-2 after the 2nd.  Polak scores 8:59 left in the game and Brent Seabrook gets a delay of game at 18:07 which leads to Berglund's PPG at 18:57.

Hawks vs. Blue Jackets (10/23/10)
Columbus wins 3-2
The Hawks should have won this game but they lost the momentum at the end of the 2nd period.  Sharp and Toews score for the Hawks in the 1st period.  Derek Brassard scores 35.7 sec left in the 2nd.  With 29 sec still left in the middle period Brouwer received a major penalty for boarding after he hit defenseman Fedor Tyutin from behind.  Umberger and Vermette scored in the 3rd period to win the game.

Sharp and Hossa

Who's Not
Pisani, Bickell, Bolland, and Kane

Overall, the Hawks are doing okay.  The power play is great.....let's keep that up.  The goaltending is better.  There are some players that are still missing in action after 10 games in all areas.  Coach Q did a lot of line juggling yesterday.  Skille with Sharp/Toews.....Kopecky with Hossa/Brouwer....Kane with Bolland/Stalberg......Bickell with Dowell/Pisani.  Hopefully he tries this in the game and im curious to see what happens.  Going to the game tonight so it should be FUN!!! As always....GO HAWKS!!!

The 1st two wks of the Chicago Blackhawks

Well, looks like the Hawks have had a slow start.  Eventhough they are 3-2-1...they have been struggling everywhere from D to goaltending to putting the puck in the net.  It seems like they are starting to get into the flow of putting a W on the board although they have played 6 games in 10 nights and will continue the crazy schedule this week too by playing 4 games.  They are 3rd in their division and 5th in the Western Conference.  Here are the game summaries for each game.

Hawks vs. Avalanche (10/7/10)
Avs win 4-3 in OT
Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa both got a goal and assist each.  Marty Turco makes 37 saves with 41 shots on goal. The Avalanche honored their 1996 Cup-winning team in a pregame ceremony which Versus didn't show and Paul Stastny got the GWG in OT.

Hawks vs. Red Wings (10/9/10)
Wings win 3-2
The Hawks had a pregame banner-raising ceremony which was AWESOME!!  They had 5 players from the 61' team pass the banner to the returning players from last season, skate the banner the length of the ice, before it was slowly hoisted to the United Center's rafters. Bickell and Seabrook tallied for Chicago.  The last goal that the Wings scored John Scott fell as Filppula accelerated toward him at the blue line. Flippula cut to the net and accidentally slid a shot under Blackhawks goalie Marty Turco when defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson
 dived in front of him.

Hawks vs. Sabres (10/11/10)
Hawks win 4-3
This was Corey Crawford 1st start of the season.   Fourteen seconds into the 1st period Sabres score and 2:29 later they score another goal making it 2-0 Sabres within 3 minutes of the game.  Niklas Hjalmarsson got a 5-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct for his hit on Jason Pominville.  Hjalmarsson ended up getting a two game suspension because Pominville sustained a concussion and a gash above his eye that required 7-8 stitches on the hit to the boards.

Hawks vs. Predators (10/13/10)
Preds win 3-2
Patrick Kane (PPG) and Jonathan Toews (1st of the season) tally for the Hawks.  Nick Boynton was given a delay of game 2:13 left into the game that went against the Hawks.  Joel Ward scored a power play goal 26.7 sec left into the game to win the game.

Hawks vs. Blue Jackets (10/15/10)
Hawks win 5-2
Best game so far this season.  Everything seemed to click.  Patrick Sharp got two goals this game (one being a shortie) and almost gets a hat trick with his breakaway but didn't cash in on it.  Stalberg gets his first goal this season.

Hawks vs. Sabres (10/16/10)
Hawks win 4-3
Patrick Sharp ends up scoring 2 goals again this game too!!  This is Sharpie's 4th goal for the season with four goals in two nights.  Patrick Kane ended up getting 2 assists.  Dave Bolland scores his 1st goal of the season on a 4 on 4.  Marty Turco makes 37 saves with 40 shots on goal.  Hawks were down 3-2 at the end of the 2nd period to win it 4-2.

Interesting facts
-Coach Quenneville coached his 1,000 game on 10/7/10
-Hossa is on a hot streak with 9 points with 6-game point streak and is 2nd star of the wk
-Sharp set a franchise record (10/15/10) with 13 SOG surpassing Doug Wilson and Grant Mulvey both with 12 SOG
-Hjalmarsson has already 15 PIM...had 20 PIM for the whole entire 09-10 season
-Leddy has been sent down to Rockford (wasn't surprised he was going to end up there----cap and TOI)
-The Hawks so far have averaged 33.7 shots against per game.....last season averaged 25.1.
-Power play is 6 goals out of 22 chances (27.3% 4th in league)
-Penalty Kill has only allowed 3 goals out of 25 chances (88% 10th in league)

Overall
The Hawks are doing okay.  They need improvements in every category.  The defense has struggled a lot.  Out of the 6 games they have been out shot 4 games.  2 games they have allowed 40 and 41 shots per game which is crazy cause I couldn't even tell you the last time when that happen last season.  Marty Turco has been shaky at the beginning but I think he's starting to get into the flow into things.  Certain players haven't been noticeable on F.   The one player that has impressed me so far has been Boynton.  He was given one of the stars-of-the game (10/11/10).  He was asked when was the last time that happen and he said not since the lockout!!!  Brian Campbell is expected to come back in two weeks....hopefully by then the Hawks will start to get the momentum back, play a full 60 minutes and start putting more W's on the boards.  Let's go HAWKS!!!
